Reducing exposure of bare soil

Temporary covers

Covering ground that has been temporarily cleared during construction is an excellent way of stabilizing the soil and limiting sediment transport into bodies of water and wetlands as well as storm sewer systems and urban infrastructure. It is also a great way to preserve the dryness of fill temporarily piled up at the site.

Normally, the Ministère des Transports suggests four types of covers or tarpaulins for temporarily covering excavated soil and material, and for temporary slope stabilization: natural-fibre erosion control blankets, geomembranes, geotextiles and bulk mulch.
